Serving
the Richmond Community since 1979
|
As an advisory body of Richmond City Council, all RCSAC General Meetings are attended by
an appointed City Councillor liaison and a City Staff liaison. These individuals assist in
communicating our concerns and recommendations to Council as well as maintaining a connection
with us throughout the planning and implementation of any social policy.
An Executive Committee oversees operations of the RCSAC. Subcommittees formed
around an annual Work Plan are tasked with specific issues on an ongoing basis.
RCSAC Projects, Activities and Meetings in 2010:
Customarily the RCSAC hosts an All Candidates Meeting for the ridings of Richmond
East, Richmond Centre, and Richmond-Steveston in advance of the B.C. Provincial Election - the meeting was postponed to 2011
Maintaining our net membership at 31 members from 2009
Receiving monthly presentations from a variety of professionals in the areas of Literacy in Richmond, Settlement Workers in Schools and the At Home/Chez Soi project
Transforming the Families Subcommittee from a formal RCSAC subcommittee to a monthly check-in from Richmond Children First (RCF)
Providing input to City of Richmond initiatives: Social Planning Strategy, Official Community Plan and Richmond Child Care Strategy and Implementation plan
Implementing the ongoing Financial Health Survey that assesses the impact of the economic environment on member agencies - results are available in the RCSAC 2010 Final Report and 2011 Workplan
Maintaining open communications with various departments of the local, provincial and federal
governments through letters inviting their participation in the affairs of the RCSAC
Fostering an ongoing sense of community among social service agencies through our
monthly meetings by providing a venue for information sharing and collective problem solving
A portion of every regular meeting is committed to information sharing, with
each member having an opportunity to apprise other members of achievements, current projects
and forthcoming events, as well as request or offer support.
